The great news is... Amy is going to be able to nanny for Cam while I am teaching Summer School for 6 weeks this summer. Ames will be in summer school classes of her own, but they meet at night. It will be nice to have someone we trust in our house with Cam for this transition. Plus, I will be happier paying Amy than I would be a stranger. Yeah for Auntie Amy! That will give us a little buffer time to look for full time care as of August as well.
Today, Cam's birthday was celebrated without much fanfare. We had an appointment with a pediatric dermatologist at UCSF to have her mole checked out. The diagnosis is that it's a mole - it had a special name that I don't remember. Something with "speckled" in it. The short of it is that there is a potentiality for it developing melanoma and so having it removed is most likely in her future. There is no rush, as she is little and it looks fine now,
however, at some point in the future she will want to "trade it for a scar," in the words of the doc. The mole will need to be excised, requiring a plastic surgeon. Not great news, but it is nice that there is no rush. We are supposed to keep our eyes on it for changes and check back with them in a year. They said moles like these are usually removed when the children reach Jr. high so that general anesthesia poses less of a health risk.
Cam and I topped off the day with a wonderful bath (she loves bath time more than anything) and some snuggly time before bed. We read the book that Papa Banks sent to her, Harry and Shellburt. What a great book! To celebrate, after she went to bed, I drank a beer brewed by our own Joel Frozena... and it was delicious.
The pics are from a visit Cam and I made to Amy's house yesterday afternoon. Cam entertained for a good half hour by squealing and laughing - something she often does when Amy is around.
My little girl is such a treat. Even though the last 4 months has aged me visibly, I've worn the same three shirts in rotation, I still don't fit back into my skinny jeans, and I haven't slept more than 3 consecutive hours since Portland - it is all worth it.
